I have planned to buy Sony Ericsson W595a Walkman mobile in US. It supports WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM technology. Will it work in India? Should I verify something else before buying to make sure that it works in India?

It should work just fine. Maybe you will have to unlock it (remove a simlock) if it is locked for a particular network in the states but it won't be a big deal. You should be OK.
