How can i protect my laptop which i bought in USA, being NOT BLOW OFF when used with the Indian Power supply? Does the use of Step-Up transformer/Step-Down transformer ensure the protection 100%? I am also a consumer and not a computer wiz, I try to explain based on my experience. Transformers are used to step down/up the voltage. AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) also acts as a transformer with line filter, and overload protection, this is good with some range of power fluctuation. UPS (Un-interrupted Power Supply) this are AVR with batteries Since you are using a laptop, it has a Power Adapter, it converts your AC power to DC Power, if something has to blow off it will be your adapter and not the laptop, and the laptop has a battery, depending on the age and usage if power interruption occurs you can save your work. On practical side, it would be much wiser to go to your local computer store and purchase a new adapter. It will be designed based on your county AC power, or you could bring a transformer, AVR, UPS along with your laptop. Also, coffee and laptop do not mix, if you don't want your laptop to blow off.

With the insane amount of bootleg material available in India, changes are the DVD player you will be using is region free. And even if it isn't, chances are the DVD you burnt is region free anyways.

What will happen is if you hit the buy button on their website, that will take you to an online secure payment gateway and once the payment is gone through they will email you the serial with activation key and will ask you to download a trial version of photoshop to go with it. So you can install the trail versiona and use the serial key which was emailed to you. Btw, download versions are cheaper than the cd through post i think. Enjoy!

I recently bought a television from Japan, when I played it in India the picture keeps flickering. Even when I play movies using with the DVD player I bought from Japan same thing happens. I using an adapter to convert the current from 220v - 100v Can someone tell me what might be the problem? Its more like a constant flickering where I cannot see the picture properly. Its more like running picture but the sound is fine. The same happens when I watch DVD movies using my DVD player and disc bought in Japan.

I'm surprised that it works at all, considering that Japan uses NTSC-M, and India uses PAL-B. Besides being different color encoding standards, the horizontal scan rates and vertical refresh rates are also different. Be that as it may, you say it's working but you're bothered by a flickering. Since Japan's vertical refresh rate is 60 fields per second, and India's electrical frequency is 50 cycles per second, you're probably seeing the difference frequency between your TV display and the lights in your room. While 60 times a second is pretty fast, and even the slower 50 times a second is still okay, you're seeing a difference frequency of 10 times a second, and THAT is noticeable. Like watching an old cowboy movie where the stagecoach spokes appear to be spinning backward. The spiinning spokes are one frequency, but the film frame rate are a different frequency, so a difference is created that looks out of sync. If you turn off ALL lights, you should see the flicker substantially reduced. Edit: THAT sounds more likely. The TV cannot lock up to the video because it's playing at a different rate than the TV If that's the case, it probably looks like jagged slanted lines, maybe with color flickering in and out. It has nothing to do with power or adapters, but the different TV standards used in the two countries. You have an NTSC TV, which doesn't work with local PAL broadcasters. Even with an NTSC DVD player, you're buying local PAL DVD's which are incompatible. If you can buy NTSC DVD's, you should be able to watch them, but then you'll see the flickering that I described previously, like the old-time movie flickering.

You will need to use an adapter to change the voltage supplied to the power suppy, or get a replacement power supply. Other than that it will work, however, you won't be able to use any locally sourced games, you'll have to buy US versions to work with your US source Wii!

But why India, why not Phillipines, why not Sri lanka, why nor Pakistan.........The currency rate there is far less than indian rupee,,,, and work can be obtained cheaply........But am still skeptical about the quality of work offered in destinations other than India.......... I would recommend Eastern Europe (where I'm from). There is a variety of countries you may choose from: Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia. It's more expensive than India, but its Europe. You may find top designers for $25 per page.

I have a sony ericsson s710a which i have got from the cingular network of U.S .. The company personnel had given me the unlock code so that it can work in India with any other networks......... The problem iam facing is that it works only with Hutch in India......... I came to know that by changing the software of the phone it will work with all the networks.......... Can any one suggest a solution for this so that my phone works with any network in India...............

NO...The (a) in S710a is for American providers only. You might be able to flash the ROM to a S710, but it's a one time thing which may or may not work. Good luck... BD

my friend had the same problem, so we guys figured this out that its because the unlock code provided by cingular us is just for unlocking ur phone's network lock but the sim lock has not been removed as of till now check that out with some local sony ericsson shop or any high street vendor he might help you out with this problem for sure.. other thing is the simple solution of changing the rom but u must know how to do it.. don't try unless u have done that earlier....

Check with MSF (Medcins Sans Frontiers), Red Cross and similiar places. If you're newly certified, you would be better off to gain some experience in the US or Canada first as standards are different overseas.

On front of education, you may not need anything more if you are certified nurse in US. but the challenge will be adopting demographic things in India, its not about difficulty that US nurse only may have. Its about any foreign national immigrating to other nation. An Indian may face similar problem when migrating to US and any US citizen may face some other problem when coming to India.

Most important thing after getting it to turn on is the signal. If you are watching DVD's, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, etc. that is encoded from the US using NTSC, then it will be fine. However, I believe that India is a uses PAL standard that is not compatible with NTSC.

Will the cpu , motherboard and graphics card bought from US work in India ?
My relatives are coming from USA to India in the next month . So please tell me (URGENT) whether computer components such as motherboard , processors (such as core i5) and graphics card (nvidia GTX 470) bought from US will work here in India or not ? PLEASE !!! Your biggest problem is that you will have to buy games from North America because your console will be NTSC rather than PAL. I have a home loan in India. When I asked the bank about the part-prepayment charges, they came back with 2% penalty and 12.36% service tax. If I prepay Rs.1,00,000/= does the charges come to 2% of 1,00,000 = 2,000 + 12.26% of a lakh = 12360 ? I find this to be highly unreasonable. Is this the way the calculation works or is am I doing something wrong in the calculation ?

I have never worked abroad before. I will be staying in a hotel with three colleagues. I would like to ask people who may have experience in working in India for any practical advice they can offer. All suggestions more than welcome. I will be working in either Pune or Mumbai until end of November. Oh I am 22 year old white male. You shouldnt have any problem if u are in Bombay or Pune. Just make sure that someone comes to pick u up when u land in the middle of the night or have a pre-paid taxi service. Otherwise, u will get ripped off! Also, be careful if u are going in public transportation as ur pockets may be picked! As usual, if u have normal caution (travelling during the nights etc) u should be okay. If anyone tries to start a quarrel with u (mostly when they are drunk in a pub, bar etc), just walk off! PLease dont escalate the issue!

You should be fine and 99% you will enjoy your trip and work and you can have fun. However, you need to exercise caution for your own protection; and this is almost the same when you go visit any other place including Paris and New Zealand. It is important which city you are visiting and which hotel you are staying! I would recommend that: - Gain as much knowledge about the city you will working in from internet, from your company where you will be working and from library if possible. - Always drink branded mineral water from a good store. - Be careful about your wallet while walking in public places, while using public transportation. I carry 2 wallets. The main wallet is in a secured pouch that I wear inside instead placing that in back pocket or side pocket. The second wallet that I carry in back pocket has few currency notes and coins so that I need not pull out the main wallet every single occassion. This way I try to avoid risking any credit card or ID card - Keep a clean visible photocopy of all credit cards, Photo IDs, etc. at your residence in case required. - Move with known people and do not hand out at late night unncessarily unless you know who you are with. - Visiting Bar: visit at least 3-4 star bars and you should have no issue. - Foods are spicy in general, and could be more spicy for you, so be careful. Have some known medicine with you to help for any stomach upset, etc. - And stay away from street girls or women in night. This is modern risk especially in night in any metro cities.

Come with an open mind, not with a mental block. It Will be a massive cultural shock,but you'll get over it. Mumbai and Pune are decent cities. Mumbai of course is the most happening city in India, but it's no match to what you are used too. India has a lot to offer. You'll find people very friendly. Some will try to show that they are as good as you if not better. Others will be in total awe of you.

First I would advise you not to take the job and second bring your rain gear. It will be monsoons then. Every year people die in Mumbai because of the flooding there. Also understand there is no such thing as an honest Indian. 'Talk' is very cheap in India but they can never do what they say. There are no ethics in India as well as no 'work ethics'. These people are very lazy. You will be viewed as only a source of money. There will be scores of scams run on you in the time you will be here (They have spent 1000s of year mastering this process). Be polite and nice but do not try to make friends. A friend to an India is someone they can rip off without negative repercussions. Do not ever touch food with your left hand or ever hand someone anything with it. Do not give money to anyone for any reason because as soon as it leaves your hand it is gone. Do NOT support 'begging'. A new law was passed just a few months ago making it illegal to beg.
I have never worked abroad before. I will be staying in a hotel with three colleagues. I would like to ask people who may have experience in working in India for any practical advice they can offer. All suggestions more than welcome. I will be working in either Pune or Mumbai until end of November. Oh I am 22 year old white male. I only speak English however it is an English speaking office for a major UK company. Any help more than welcome

You shouldnt have any problem if u are in Bombay or Pune. Just make sure that someone comes to pick u up when u land in the middle of the night or have a pre-paid taxi service. Otherwise, u will get ripped off! Also, be careful if u are going in public transportation as ur pockets may be picked! As usual, if u have normal caution (travelling during the nights etc) u should be okay. If anyone tries to start a quarrel with u (mostly when they are drunk in a pub, bar etc), just walk off! PLease dont escalate the issue!

You should be fine and 99% you will enjoy your trip and work and you can have fun. However, you need to exercise caution for your own protection; and this is almost the same when you go visit any other place including Paris and New Zealand. It is important which city you are visiting and which hotel you are staying! I would recommend that: - Gain as much knowledge about the city you will working in from internet, from your company where you will be working and from library if possible. - Always drink branded mineral water from a good store. - Be careful about your wallet while walking in public places, while using public transportation. I carry 2 wallets. The main wallet is in a secured pouch that I wear inside instead placing that in back pocket or side pocket. The second wallet that I carry in back pocket has few currency notes and coins so that I need not pull out the main wallet every single occassion. This way I try to avoid risking any credit card or ID card - Keep a clean visible photocopy of all credit cards, Photo IDs, etc. at your residence in case required. - Move with known people and do not hand out at late night unncessarily unless you know who you are with. - Visiting Bar: visit at least 3-4 star bars and you should have no issue. - Foods are spicy in general, and could be more spicy for you, so be careful. Have some known medicine with you to help for any stomach upset, etc. - And stay away from street girls or women in night. This is modern risk especially in night in any metro cities.

Come with an open mind, not with a mental block. It Will be a massive cultural shock,but you'll get over it. Mumbai and Pune are decent cities. Mumbai of course is the most happening city in India, but it's no match to what you are used too. India has a lot to offer. You'll find people very friendly. Some will try to show that they are as good as you if not better. Others will be in total awe of you.

Will an HDTV bought in the US work in India, or any other PAL based country
Will an HDTV bought in the US work in India, or any other PAL based country?
Specifically I am talking about the Sony KDL-46Z4100. Will this tv work in India? Would I need to buy any special adapters?

I am an individual residing in India and working from home. I am working for a US based company which has no presence in India. Should I work as Employee or Consultant? Which is best and legal? I will also be given Stock Options. As a consultant can I have stock options? What are the different taxes that I or the company have to pay and what about TDS?

generally, it is best to work as employee, for one or two years, till you collect experience, first hand inputs of the terms that you have yourself included in your Q! You may not get stock options the same way, if you are consultant; tax problems are easier if you are employee and company takes care of that thro' TDS, rather than you having to fill forms with guidance of CA experts, as consultant, with elements like service tax, which are in a flux, changing all the time in India!

As a matter of Tax planning you should work as a consultant, as you would end up paying higher taxes as an employee The only issue is that you cannot avail of the Stock Options as a consultant and if you want to avail those, you need to be an employee of the Company
