I am in USA and going to visit india. I wonder which phone will work india. Can you buy a cell phone from Sears or Best Buy that will work in india? I want to buy a decent phone.

You need an unlocked GSM phone (the ones that take the small SIM cards/chips) -- in the US, AT&T and T-Mobile is pretty much it...

Not a good idea to buy it from them. Most phones sold in the U.S. are "locked" to specific "carrier", and those carriers are not present in India. [Some have 'roaming' arrangements with Indian carriers, but 'roaming charges' are pretty high] The best way to buy 'unlocked' GSM phones is from eBay or Amazon, that can support 900 or 1800 MHz (in addition to 1900 MHz that is used in the U.S.) Note: 3G frequencies are different in Asia. Before you leave for India, test it w/AT&T or T-Mobile SIM card from a member of your family or friends. And a buy pre-paid SIM card from any major GSM carrier and use it
